Michael E. Hacker
With more than 15 years of experience providing strategic Washington counsel to Members of Congress, Fortune 500 companies, national non-profit organizations and trade associations, Michael Hacker is a seasoned legislative and campaign professional specializing in issue advocacy, legislative strategy and public relations.
Hacker comes to HDMK from the Office of Assistant Democratic Leader and former Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, the House Democrats' chief vote counter, where he served as Floor Director and Senior Advisor. In that capacity he worked directly with Members of Congress and senior staff to move an ambitious legislative agenda through the House of Representatives.
In that role, he acted as the Democratic leadership's primary liaison to the business community and was responsible for a broad legislative and political portfolio, including telecommunications, energy and financial services policy. Immediately prior to his position with the Majority Whip, he was a director at DC-based public affairs firm, where he focused on crisis communications and government relations for a number of high-profile engagements.
Hacker began his Washington career in Michigan politics, serving in a variety of roles for House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Dingell, including as Communications Director and Senior Policy Advisor. He was also a special assistant to then Democratic Whip David Bonior. A veteran of numerous congressional political campaigns, he has worked on every Democratic Presidential campaign since 1996.
Hacker, a native of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he earned degrees in English literature and American history. He is an avid duck hunter, fly fisherman and Michigan Wolverine football fanatic who currently resides in the District of Columbia.
